How To Choose Kitchen Cabinets

Thursday, May 20, 2010
posted by Craig

Choosing kitchen cabinets doesn’t have to be confusing. With a little research on your part you’ll know what to ask for, what you want and need, and where to find it. All while saving the most money you possibly can.

First - Decide what you need, what you want, and what you can afford.kitchen cabinet remodel

  • What style are you looking for? Shaker, Country, Retro, Classic, New England, Cottage?
  • Are you open to suggestions and ideas?
  • Do you want wood, laminate, frame cabinets or frameless (Euro-style)?
  • What type of countertops are you going with? Laminate, solid surface, marble, granite, quartz, concrete, tile, glass?
  • Do you need an entirely new kitchen, just a bath vanity, or only a rollout fixed?
  • Do you need help with the entire process, which means you might need to hire or be your own contractor, or is your project small?
  • What is your budget? If you have $200 you can paint your cabinets for a fresh look or get new handles or knobs. If you have $5,000 or more you will be able to get an entirely new kitchen, depending on size. If you have $10,000 you might even begin thinking about remodeling (changing walls, plumbing, etc.). Kitchens really can run from a few thousand to several tens of thousands depending on where you live and what you want. You’ll pay much more for a kitchen in New England or Oregon than you will in Kentucky or Wisconsin.

Thinking about these questions will help get you going in the right direction.

Rebuilding Haiti

It’s been 24 hrs since i have reached out to Mr Scott Kraft, a Los Angeles times media reporter. My message was very clear and to the point, in that i wish to donate 100% of the commission proceeds for 1 month, starting yesterday. I expect for him to publish our story and return my phone call and e-message tonight, we want to put a little pressure on all of our E-store affiliates IE., Sears.com/ Amazon.com and Home Depot.com, when they meet our challenge of charitable contributions and building supplies as well as energy efficient lighting fixtures and plumbing supplies.

The building codes are questionable at best but that will not stop the masses from any further advancements. We will build a better tomorrow for the people of Haiti and their families, that have suffered long enough. Our vision here at My-DIY.net is for a brighter future in all the world, pull soldiers from the middle east and put soldiers to work on an island that right now is far worse off than any war zone Mr Obama, let us help each other in this world and end the chaos today.rebuild starting with one brick

Stand tall you masses and understand how critical a place these Haitians are in at this very moment, tell a friend/coworker/family member about this action that requires all of us to rise above and shout ” WE CAN DO THIS”. Climb on board with that donation and help make a difference today.

Haitian Relief [proposal]

Good evening world. As we can all sit back in the comfort of our homes tonight, there are many out there that have not been quite as fortunate. But my vision and beliefs are that we all can do something to aide those in need. I just left a message for Scott Kraft of the LosAngeles Times news paper, asking him to help circulate our story. Me here, on this world exposed blog, am offering 100% of the  affiliate marketing proceeds as a charitable contribution. All of the purchases staring at 7:30 pm pst will be going towards a lump sum dollar amount to the people in dire straights of Haiti. The catastrophic events of the 7.0 earthquake that tore down this place nearly 2 weeks ago has many children and their families literally upside down.haitian need helphaiti 2010 earthquakehaitian families in need

Any of us that want to help, can and will by using anyone of many E-stores via here on this blog site or at MY-DIY.net. When enough of us pitch in we are able to give back a little bit to help make a difference. From Home Depot / Amazon / Bestbuy / Commission Junction or Ebay all of which are my affiliates. I am also asking that everyone of those mentioned here and now stand up and meet us with our purchase power. If Home Depot / Amazon.com / Bestbuy.com / Commission Junction or Ebay.com can hear us roar, they will hear loud and clear that this is a challenge. That’s right, we are calling them to the mat for a no holds barred bout of matching the funds and or materials to donate.

Not only will this be of great service, the 2009 tax benefits can be of credit for all of our next filings on april 15. Lets create a better avenue of building services and appliances. I expect that Mr Kraft will help us with the broader publishing efforts involved but email this to as many friends as possible and lets start today by making a grander difference in this life.

Sincerely,

Craig E. president

Insulate the ATTIC

1. Insulationenergy-efficient label

Heat loss through walls, floors and the roof accounts for about 45% of heat loss (or cooling loss, in summer) in a typical home, says Anna Lowen, researcher for the American Council for an Energy efficient Economy. Attics are often the easiest thing to insulate, and rolling out some Owens Corning fiberglass is often a DIY weekend project. Need more incentive? There’s a significant federal tax credit for installing insulation — 30% (up to $1,500) of the cost of materials.

How to get a rebate on home appliances

The federal government wants to help you buy a new refrigerator. Here’s how to take advantage of a program that gives you cash for replacing inefficient appliances.

The government’s Cash for Clunkers auto rebate program is over, but the appliance rebate starting early this year could give Americans some cash back on other purchases.

The Energy Star rebate program, passed last February as part of the American recovery and Reinvestment Act, will give rebates to consumers who replace certain home appliances with energy-efficient models. The program was designed to stimulate the sagging economy as well as conserve energy by taking inefficient appliances out of commission, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Energy said, the agency administering the program.

“It was a triple goal,” they say. “To increase energy efficiency, give a break to consumers in this economy and give a boost to the appliance industry.”

Sears Appliances

By far and wide Sears appliances are the #1 searched for products in this category, without exception we know exactly why this holds true. Kitchen appliances by Sears have been around for a long, long time. Grandma bought and used them as well as mom, and still mom refuses to buy and use anything but Sears appliances today. Proof is in the pudding, Sears appliance tops in performancewith a proven line like Kenmore and the direct affiliation with Whirlpool, Sears has been the top manufacture of appliances sold and used in America. Washer, dryer combos, Sears dishwashers and Kenmore cooking appliances have kept their customers satisfied with reliability and service so the owners continue to purchase again and again. Online with often free appliance shipping it would be a grave mistake to go any where else.

Refrigerator water filters (cartridge replacement)

When the light on the inside of the door goes from green to red on most refrigerators with a water filter built in, it says that we need to replace the refrigerator water filter. Most of today’s refrigerators have built in water filters to clean the water for ice and cold drinks. We own a Kenmore Model #106.56703500 side-by-side refrigerator that takes Model #9030 replacement refrigerator water filters.

A lot of the Kenmore appliances are built by Whirlpool. This bit of information is quite handy when you go searching for your water filter replacement cartridge. Apparently there are many different water filters on the market and they fit an assortment of makes and models.

First I checked the prices at Sears and found that it would be $49.98 for a new water filter plus shipping . Needless to say that seemed a bit pricey for me so I started looking around for another source. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Amazon Replacement Refrigerator Water Filters has quite a selection of replacement refrigerator water filters.

I just purchased the Whirlpool 4396710P PUR Side By Side Refrigerator Push Button Cyst Reducing Water Filter, 2-Packquick turn water filter cartridge exchange from Amazon for $63 with Free shipping. That’s just under $32 each and I ordered them from the comfort of my home. $63 per year (they recommend changing the filters ever 6 months) seems fairly reasonable to have filtered water from our refrigerator.
