Plumbing/Piping Repair

How to fix a leaky pipe has never been easier since the Shark bite fittings hit the piping repair industry. Every homeowner in the world can now address their plumbing pipes as if they just got a plumbers license from the state or country they own their own house or rental property in. It’s no secret or magic pill to be ingested, truth be known these relatively new and inexpensive little gems are just like snapping Lego’s together, just as you did when you were a kid.

The best thing about Shark bite fittings, is they will help you stop any leak in any pipe,  in any area of the world. Whether it be Pex tubing or copper tubing or even PVC plumbing with 2 quick cuts and 2 even quicker snaps together , can stop any plumbing leak anywhere.

Pex tubing is not used in the west like copper tubing because of the warmer climates, but these non sweat , no plumbing experience needed,  DIY tools are applied, all things are possible. It does not matter where in the wall the water line repair is necessary , It won’t make a difference if they are leaking in  the concrete or under the slab,  plumbing pipes can be fixed,  Sharkbite plumbing fittings can stop the steady drip drip drip of water wasting usage and or water damage that can be avoided.

The water heater needs a supply water line to heat and distribute hot water to any bathroom or kitchen in every home across the world. Many of these water supply lines are buried and not seen until, there is a sign of water damage. These water supply pipes are easily repairable. Once You have the knowledge and lose the fear of believing “I Can’t” ….. until you have done your homework , the fear exits faster than How can I Repair a plumbing pipe! As the thought turns to “I easily CAN!” Have a fantastic and healthy Thanksgiving Day !!

Mold remediation [exaust fan]

Action is needed to remedy anything. The everyday bath fan has many upsides, when the ductwork is done correctly all else will follow. Mold has proved to be unhealthful for a lot of us, but to avoid mold and mildew in our very frequently used bathrooms has never been easier. Any diy’er has the ability to execute change, and we here at My-DIY.net aim to give back a solution that is inexpensive and simple.

In the image here it shows the creative way to use ductwork in a bathroom shower exhaust fan. With the ceiling 2×4 framing disallowing a direct air flow, the 90 degree duct gets us up and out in the shortest distance without constricting or pinching the ducting. Home Depot stocks this exhaust fan elbow ducting in house and it is extremely easy to DIY or Do It Yourself, when we have all the right information to avoid mold and mildew in our families bathrooms for cleaner healthier living.

When searching through the exhaust fans available on line, it is noted here that the volume of air exchanged and the Ultra-quiet motors operate at sone level reading per noisiness factor. But most importantly, moving the wet air up and out as your hot and steamy shower continues. But, in order for a bath fan to be able to perform it’s duties it must draw air from someplace?? Be certain there is a significant gap underneath the bathroom door 3/4″ or so ,  and or crack open the bathroom window just enough to aide in the CFM also known as the cubic feet of air per minute. Good luck and DIY , Today!

Tuckpointing

In fixing up my own home, I’ve been learning quite a bit about masonry. For instance, I didn’t know that a hand masonry saw isn’t really a saw at all; it’s a specialized grinder. I’ve also learned that tuckpointing is a tiring, dusty job.

Using a hand masonry saw, you can remove mortar from an industrial building or clean up a residential chimney. Where people often make a mistake is in trying to remove too much at once. This makes the grinder work harder and kicks more dust into the air. It’s a much better technique, I’ve found, to make multiple passes in a small area.

TREX Decking Re-call

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Trex Nightmare: Having  had over $3,500.00 worth of Trex Decking installed. The material bought in Feb. 2005, for my front deck, is deteriorating. Not mold or mildew but flaking off of surface. This deck has had only rain water. Trex sent two people to evaluate my problem and their report to Trex resulted in them offering me $380.84 for replacing 220 lin ft. of decking.???

The story continues:

My quote for this replacement material amounted to $647.44. It will cost me another $400.00 in labor to dismantle and reinstall.—My back deck , installed late in 2005, has so far, shown problems on only 2 boards, 20 ft. long.—The problem starts with bubbling and then completely deteriorates by flaking off of surface material.–This was obviously a bad run of material, as several other decks of same time period have had exactly the same problem.Trex manufactures claim “to make it right”  said they have been good about replacing the material but in my case they do not want to replace this much material. I have heard nothing from them since refusing their offer. Their warranty on their product is 25 yrs.–They want me to accept half price of material, do all the labor myself and sign a full and final release for all of my Trex decking. I bought 1540 lin. ft @Approx. $2.20 per ft. when doing my decks. The same material is now $2.60 per lin.ft.–

That story tells the truth about composite decking material, although it can be worked (drilled-notched-sawed) much like lumber, it is man made and this particular batch end up imploding itself. Internal mold issues caused premature delamination and forced a class action suite against TREX. I believe in lumber, built right the first time and looks and feels natural a redwood deck is the way to go.

If you plan on DIY decking in your future, weigh the difference and consider your geographical location. East coast vs. West coast IE., but either way it turns out, you will have improved to curb appeal of your home and will most likely recoup any out of pocket expense (ROI) from that home improvement. Home Staging Helps Sellers

home-repairIn this competitive real estate market, sellers need to take all possible measure to attract a buyer’s interest. When a homebuyer enters a seller’s home, they need to be able to say “I can see myself here” within the first minute. First impressions are the most important, and in a buyer’s market, even little details count for a lot.

Most of the time, homebuyers want to find versatile spaces, after all, there’s little chance the buyer will view a space the same as a seller. It’s important to have neutral colors on the walls and furniture, avoid clutter, and also focus on what elements of each space buyers look at first; counters, cabinets, fireplaces, home appliances, and floors sell homes. So before you start giving tours, consider doing a little DIY home repair to get everything in peak condition.

A Stucco NO! NO!

stucco covering fence post needs lathe to stay onHere is a stucco no, no! In this photo, the simple project of combining a stair stepped yard border line, the walkway below the cedar 1×6 dog eared fence is poured in place and has the treated 4×4 fence post’s set during that concrete placement.

The public sidewalk  was poured on the graded slope so 2 elevations are the challenge. Stucco exterior finish was the call at all the concrete below the fencing, the proper approach would have avoided this problem, cement materials cannot adhere to wood for any length of time, but the answer is adding some stucco lathe screen or wire fastened to the post to allow the stucco brown coat some tooth to grab and hang onto for life!

This property is located in Redondo Beach CA, where the homes median price range is over $700 k, and 10 years ago even in this current market the ROI has more than doubled. Location, location, location kids, but the name of the game is real estate anywhere has proven to beat any stock market over time…

Thousands of Californians whose homes were foreclosed on or sold at a loss will likely get tax relief under a measure approved Thursday by the state Legislature.

The bill would waive state taxes on mortgage debt that has been forgiven in a foreclosure or short sale. The law is expected to affect about 34,000 taxpayers.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to sign the measure, which would also provide about $60 million in tax credits to green-energy companies.

Californians can already claim the tax breaks on federal returns. With the April 15 deadline for tax filings looming, the Senate and Assembly approved the measure, SB 401, by Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis.

Fix it Now

Whatever may be in disrepair around your home will eventually need quite a bit more attention as time elapses. Does your rain gutter hold water from 2 weeks ago when it last rained? As much as we would love to ignore this fact, what you may not realize that the nearest seam is breaking down and starting to leak, could be a small drip straight to the front porch or it might just be working its way through the fascia board and rotting away at the roof’s eave or a few rafter tails. Hence causing more dry rot and or concrete water damage than the earlier quick minor repair, sealing the rain gutter. Are you waiting too long to get to that leak?

Procrastination isn’t the name of the game if we really ever want to get anywhere folks, a buck ahead for that proverbial rainy day and or as Napoleon Hill once wrote “money conscious or poverty conscious” which way is your mind taking you? Another marketing genius and extremely successful self made entrepreneur, is Jeffrey Combs and his whole mantra is about already being instead of waiting to be, it all begins at that perception of ” somethings else that needs to be done as a home improvement project” when it should be thought of as ” protecting the biggest investment in your portfolio”. See you at the new rich extravaganza !!

Thoughts will become things

Every now and then again we will find ourselves fixed on an idea, thought or premonition. And with the constant bombardment of commercialism, media news and advertising surrounding our lives how can this not be? When Andrew Carnegie figured a way to fabricate mountain ores into a battleship, this perhaps did not happen overnight, rather starting as an idea and slowly manifesting into something tangible. The power of your brains or thoughts as well as opposing thumbs can be the sole difference from man to animal.how to repair a leaky roof?

Many a day and night we have all struggled to grasp and hold onto a simple life changing decision such as maybe “how am i going to stop that leak?” well we here are living flesh that, given all the elements of any equation, the human mind still has to concentrate to a point to enable a solution, think-think-think using your mind is the greatest gift that any one God will have ever granted. An education is imperative, no doubt, but having a masters degree in any field, still requires a plow…..idea power of the "NEW-RICH"
