Step #1: Pick your place, area, room etc. Where the new tile will be installed, wall, ceiling, floor or maybe counter top. Measure the square footage and add roughly 15% for cuts and scrap. Now go choose the tile of preference and look for specials or clearance sales. Step #2: Rent, buy or borrow a tile saw and a 4″ grinder with a diamond blade. Pick up a notched trowel and a grout float. Get a sufficient amount of thin set to do the job, and 2 clean 5 gallon buckets. 1 for water and 1 for mixing the thin set, grout etc. tile spacerstile preperation installdry mix thin set for ceramic tile settingceramic tile toolsMake a designated space outside for cutting and working. Step #3: Prep the surface well, check for low and high points before floating the surface level, if on an existing slab, make notes of those bad areas. Step #4: Create your layout design ie diagonal, square, borders, spots as well as center of doors and the spacer size if any, etc. Step #5: Make a few practice cuts on the saw and acclimate what you can do when your mind is right. pullout DBL waste & recycle binsbehind door waste can hardware

Every single day, night we have something to discard, as humans we live and consume as we breathe. During a DIY kitchen redo why not configure a place for that kitchen trash can. With a bit of design effort it’s a cinch on how to install kitchen cabinets with a pullout waste basket as opposed to the classic under the sink approach. That lower profiled area down there can’t really accept to much before needing to be emptied again. But the all new and improved habit changing technology lets us rethink the fine art of disposal habits, plus being concealed helps with the artistry of decor for your kitchen. With the double waste bins we get a recycle can also. Open the door, undo the plastic bag insert, lift and off to the curb. The other new bags right there beneath the full bag every time. We love this stuff, really!

Bath Sink Mac washer

The large, usually black rubbery washer for a bath sink repair , at the drain assembly will be know in any plumbing supply house as the mac washer. It’s sole purpose is to be squished into the bottom of your sink’s drain hole. The flat metal washer that is behind or under the mac, gets forced into the mac washer as the nut (that’s below the flat washer) is tightened on the outside threaded drain pipe.big rubber black (MAC) washer This rubber or foam material will fail from years of hard water usage, and as it petrifies, will crack and fail causing a leak. Good to note it’s a pretty simple fix and any diy plumbing repair person need only get a replacement and swap it out. Hardware stores and home improvement centers have replacement parts galore. But be sure to take the old one with you!

How to repair a running toilet, reasons are they run because they leak water out of the tank and down the drain, or the floor. This automated invention has been improved upon many times over for efficiency and has tremendous longevity. But for some reason or another the porcelain substance used will sometimes get a hairline crack and slowly drip to lose water.one piece toilettwo piece toilet w/base and separate tank

When a single piece toilet gets a crack the whole toilet will need replacing. Where as a two piece toilet, the tank can be unbolted and removed to be replaced. Sold both ways although and neither is superior to the other, height restriction or the lower profiled single piece toilet may have this going for it, depending on the DIYer’s  personal preference. Most manufacture’s will sell you the tank alone down the road someday if want or need takes precedence. Do your homework and pull the trigger on your choice.

Lets get creative and learn how to install replacement windowsreplacement window DIY dressingreplacement window trim ( reverse section) with a stool and apron on the inside, paint or stain grade diy window treatments that say “OH YEA” that is how we roll. After the windows in place you will have removed any existing treatment. Pick the moulding you’ll be using and some 3/4″ flat stock to cut and install for the stool, this little decorative shelve notches around the finish wall and goes beyond the casings, as well as hangs into the room about an inch past the front lower moulding. This is known as the apron, the stool separates the casing from the apron and sets flat on top of the stool. Take note to measure accurate and see where and what’s to take place. With the new moulding, cut some small tester pieces and mark the layouts so you can facilitate there spots. A miter saw and table saw will be of great help but a handsaw and a good angle square can do this as well, diy your new replacement windows before all the guest show this holiday season, and show off all you want…..good job again!!

Installing Kitchen Cabinets

How installing kitchen cabinets with a 5/8″ ACX  subtop. The subtop is the plywood surface that’s fastened to the top of the cabinet(s), so you can lay the counter top over and adhere to it. Most would say why not 3/4″ plywood. Because most fabricated counter top have a 3/4″ return bullnosed front edge. With a 5/8″ subtop, the front edge of the counter top IE marble/ granite/ some of your corian or cultured counter tops are fabricated for a 3/4″ return that’s not going to hide the front edge of the plywood.bullnose front lip (edge) kitchen cabinet install

Many installers want this plywood subtop to be primer sealed before install and some of the better fabricators will seal the underside of the counter as well. Some glues used are not recommended because the porosity of the stone’s suck’s up and into the material and stain’s or even eats away and corrodes it. Ask the supplier for any recommended adhesives before hand.

All interior wood doorsinterior door cornice crown have some finish trim to accentuate it’s appearance. The casing that wraps  around and encompasses the interior door on both sides can be fairly simplistic or architecturally     ornate with several different looks. The DIYer can perform these with a miter saw and a hammer.

Easy steps for beautiful options. Step #1: Choose the look and materials. Step #2: Make your margin overlay (reveal) marks onto the jamb. Step#3: Cut the side casing’s and install, the head piece often will layout to outside and even with total width of casing. Step#4: Cut and install the parting bead 1″ longer than the casing, at lower head piece, all of these can be cut square and is the easiest, but a 45 degree return will enable no end grain exposure. Step #5: cut and install the crown head piece at 45 degree’s 2″ longer than casing. Use wood glue at the end return pieces as the nail’s will tend to split them.

On how to install a tile floor base detail, to make the area waterproof and sexy. Remove existing base boards and cut the drywall 1″ below the tile base of choice. Your new tile base detail will cover the cut line of drywall and eliminate any drywall repairs. By incorporating flashing paper in order to seal, cut the building paper so it folds into the existing tile floor and rides up the wall to the bottom of the drywall, staple the paper to the framing studs and bottom plate.tile base detail flush w/drywall

For a float base built out 1/4″ below the face of the finish drywall surface, fasten diamond metal lathe over the paper and at every stud. This aides in the float strength and gives a nice even flat surface to thin set the tiles to. Perhaps allowing an even grout line at the top but the grout will loosen and crack because of the drywall. The solution here for a premium job, grout manufacture’s also make matching tube of grout for caulking guns that will expand and contract. Look for those tubes in the same isles you get the other tile products, and DIY a tile base detail for years to come.

The choice is yours as a consumer to find the best fit for your circumstances on how to install laminate flooring. A few tips here are quality control and the variations of products offered. To find out what core material is used. The higher the number, the stronger and better quality the laminate is. Most floors use an average of 700-880 kg per square meter, but some go as high as 950. However, most home improvement stores will not carry laminate flooring that has a value of 950. You may have to go to a specialty store to find that. Find out the surface rating of a brand of laminate flooring. The flooring industry assigns ratings to laminate floors. This is called the “AC” rating. The higher the number after the AC, the more durable the. Big box stores will usually sell floors with an AC2 or AC3 rating.
