Diy Cabinets & the toe kick

Monday, November 30, 2009

In every form of cabinetry the toe kick gets overlooked. All diy cabinets can facilitate a toe kick, as in a strong foundation builds the forgoing future. At the base of cabinetry sits the frame that supports the boxes they rest on, and most of these allow the front toe kick to be visible.installing the toe kick Unless, as the image here shows, the end box or only cabinet (such as a bathroom vanity) has a side panel that is notched for a finish toe kick panel.

If the conditions are such that 3 boxes fill a space between two walls, for instance, the toe kick may end up being 10′ or so and will fasten below at the face of the frame the 3 boxes sit upon. In this case a back ledger and several sub span joist of 3/4″ ply every 24″ can be applied to create the base frame. Standard dimensions are 2″ to 3″ recessed back and 4″ high for comfort and cleaning. As the layout enables every cabinet, so in a sense they will have equal support for a good solid install. Now the finish front toe kick can be installed to complete the base portion of the cabinets.

Diy home repairs

Hey folks, truth be known, diy home repairs of coarse can and will vary but all have the adage of a dime in time saves 9 , silly maybe, but how truer to the sense of if Im looking @ diy sites. To diy is to save and to save on projects is to catch them before they have accelerated to the point of irreparable damage. Throughout this site, we lament on this formula, over and over. But only because the passion is here! When a thing needs repairing it may have been stopped long before that, one three minute adjustment at the right time, has the power to alleviate and or alter the way the chain of events will have taken place.diy home improvements

If your toilet’s water level has lowered to a spot that will not allow enough flush then consequentially, slow but sure you will eventually be looking for the plunger. That water level can easily be adjusted with the turn of one screw, and low and behold, no searching for the plunger!

Diy drywall Cornerbead

Applying cornerbead on an outside corner of your diy drywall project is to complete the job. No job is done until the paper work has been finished. Unlike drywall work, no job is complete until the cornerbead has been applied. Mudded and sanded, first the cornerbead diy drywall applicationactual metal or plastic piece of 8′or 10′ foot corner cap, gets screwed or nailed over the drywall and into the framing IE wall, ceiling soffit rim etc. With a fastener every 6″ or so hold this cornerbead down and tight to the face of your drywall. In essence a phase of diy drywall is the application of any metal around the rough edge of the drywall, for the mud to be held and finalizing a finish product. Whether going square or bullnosed diy drywall cannot be complete without the cornerbead.

Garbage disposer or not?

The garbage disposerThe first Garbage Disposer was invented in 1927 by John W. Hammes. He was an architect working in Racine, Wisconsin. After eleven years of development, his InSinkErator company put his disposer on the market in 1938.

In many cities in the United States in the 1930s and the 1940s the municipal sewage system had regulations prohibiting running food waste (garbage) into the system. InSinkErator spent considerable effort, and was highly successful in convincing many localities to rescind these prohibitions. Many localities mandated the use of disposers. For many years, garbage disposals were illegal in New York city because of a perceived threat of damage to the city’s sewer system. After a 21-month study with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the ban was rescinded on [September 11, 1997 by local law 1997/071 which amended section 24-518.1, NYC Administrative code. In 2008, the city of Raleigh North Carolina attempted a ban on the replacement and installation of garbage disposals which also extended to outlying towns sharing the city’s municipal sewage system, but rescinded the ban one month later.

Garbage disposal units became popular in American kitchens of the better-off in the 1970s and 1980s. In the U.S. 47% of homes had disposal units as of 2007, but in the United Kingdom this was only 6%. As we take this appliance for granted it will always come back to bite. Take care of your garbage disposer and use only when absolutely needed and not as a trash can….

Garage door repair remote

Whether yours is a Genie or a Liftmaster or what have you, the common denominator is the remote control. Constant in the new age world is the batteries that automate our lives. The surprising tie into all ts is how much we humans rely upon the clickers. A woman in front of me recently asked for my help, when i asked her with what exactly she said her “garage door.”After a few seconds the root of her problem was it would not cooperate and open for her. But the garage door repair she had needed was’nt the garage door per say , but the remote control had been dropped and broken, so she had no clue how if it was not whole and she could not (click) then how in the world can she get inside? I simply showed her how the button activates the inside and the magic happens.garage door remote control Her reply was of coarse thank you so much and how she can make it up to me in the future, but with that thought i have to say, please just DIY and understand how things are “magically” facilitated. And her forever’s will forever. As humans and existing in this era it is paramount to still understand just how basic so many of these ideas that seem to gratify and simplify everything in our lives are!

To Tile or not to Tile the shower?

A tile shower is one of a few different types of finishes to enclose a shower with. Although an inexpensive option of completing the finish, floor , walls etc. with tile, but a fake alternative is Marlite or another way of saying man made marble or granite. There are manufacture’s that take your custom order and fabricate material’s of your color/design selection of choice. Also available are kits with this concept in mind that will install in most of the average tub /shower enclosure’s in the common house holds. Cultured products can be very appealing to the eye as well as the wallet. cultured marble shower

The advantage of these options are full pieces attached to the walls without consecutive grouting per a tile shower and all the subsequent squares of tile, piece by piece, installation process. Full back and side wall with seams only at the corners. Cutting the labor and materials used to 1/3-rd of a tile approach. When executed properly and installed correctly this type of alternative should be considered on any budget. If a diy tile shower becomes the proverbial light bulb, we think it’s paramount to bring choices to fruition!

interior sliding door

Sliding doors have been used since the first century in Roman houses, which were discovered in Pompeii, Italy by Archaeologists. A interior sliding door is a type of door which opens horizontally by sliding. There are many types of sliding doors. Sliding doors are commonly used for shower doors, glass doors and wardrobe doors. Enough of the word “Doors” already. Let’s talk about a wardrobe fixer-upper. Sliding Doors have multiple uses. My sliding door for my closet, is a mirrored door which I can use for checking out my outfit, doing my hair, applying makeup, etc. Anything you would use a normal mirror for. Another use for my mirror is for hiding all my dirty clothes so my room gets the impression as “clean”. On my mirrored closet sliding door, It has a gold frame finish. On the inside, my dad put shelfs and racks to keep it more organized. Which is a good cheap renovation (He just told me it only cost about 50$).

In my opinion, A sliding glass door is much better than a cheap curtain on your shower or bath. A curtain can get stained and dirty, which means it needs to be washed (unless you like dirty shower curtains, which is fine by me..i guess). So think about investing in a Sliding Glass Door for your bathroom. Or, for your entrance to your backyard/patio. If the Romans did it, so can you. GOOD LUCK!

A shower / tub combo is in just about every home in the modern world today, and given options on how to get the cleanest the quickest is not only sprucing up the design notch but creating a more efficient environment to bathe in. A bathroom fixture that comes to mind is the removable/ adjustable hand held shower head. All the better proven manufacturers make these in any finish you desire and they will bolt up and retro fit any almost all our existing showers.hand held bathroom fixture From the kids to stretch (DAD) the height of the head on a slide bar, can remain hands free for comfort and proficiency enabling each rotating new user the ease of location. And when want or need arises just grab and undo for the hand held wand version of rinsing at will. Typically 2 brackets with 2 holes for the slide bar mounting and the water line fastens right into the existing plumbing. You’ll never come clean like this again!!

diy cabinets face frame

As in every trade there’s a tolerance, and for framing a wall for instance this can be up to 1/2″ in some conditions. But with all diy cabinets we can say proudly that accuracy is an 1/16″ or less. It is not a given that the walls will be plumb and square every time so, often the face frame on an end unit diy cabinet can be ran wild or long for scribe execution. With a plane or even a belt sander the face frame is milled down for a nice tight fit and leaving the diy cabinet plumb, level and square. diy cabinet face frameThis frame is easily assembled with a Kreg jig, a simple self guiding hole drilling apparatus that is 100% perfect every time. Take a few extra minutes before hand and evaluate the sites condition’s to alleviate any further problems. A level and a framing square will show you where any maladies lie and help you to get a good mental picture of what needs to be accomplished.
