To find out what core material is used. The higher the number, the stronger and better quality the laminate is. Most floors use an average of 700-880 kg per square meter, but some go as high as 950. However, most home improvement stores will not carry laminate flooring that has a value of 950. You may have to go to a specialty store to find that. This is a monumental post and it really means alot to give back in this manner. As much as the overwhelming response that we have received, the reply is we are eternally grateful to be of service and thank you very much. How to install laminate flooring, stair nosing. This will depend on which type of laminate flooring your using more than anything else, but our opinion is every manufacture has a website that breaks it down for us. Hardwood laminates are best in this area because of the traffic and abuse stairs incur from human feet.fastening a laminate floor stair nose

This illustration has the nose being locked down with an actual carpentry screw after the glued installation. Plugged the hole with same product, finish, etc. Do the layout well and install all fasteners into and through the wood meat below for a good sound application. Almost every home improvement center stocks or can easily order any parts from their suppliers. The point is you can obtain exactly what you need for the proper installation required, from the same laminate flooring maker, in the same finish……….. thanks again.

The first company that wrote the book on how to install laminate flooring, Pergo is a brand name and not synonymous with laminate flooring, but one of the best products on the line in our opinion. They can be purchased everywhere and even offer repair kits for most lines.Pergo laminate flooring ply-plank

Damage to your Pergo floor such as scratches and mini indentations can be repaired using color fill kits, which you can purchase from your retailer. When more significant damage occurs, replacement of the damaged plank or square is an option. To avoid lots of future headaches just realize the importance of storing any unused pieces in a dry and no direct sunlight, safe place.

Laminate under Layment

How to install laminate flooring over a problematic slab with moisture propensity. Like many of our basements, the lower the surface goes the higher the chance of keeping it 100% dry. We wont necessarily have to see a puddle of water to have an excess of moisture. For a little more insurance to get the job done right and forever, a poly shield goes down first.rubber under layment

This rubber barrier will also be rolled up the walls behind the base boards and up and around all protrusions IE posts, plumbing etc. The 2nd and 3rd layers will be 1/2″ plywood laid in opposite directions and held away from the walls for any expansion and contraction. The top plywood layer can be nailed to the bottom but not all the way through to the rubber, we want this to sustain a floating effect. Now the seal is there with a 1″ backing for the new laminate being installed. Look at archives in Fine Homebuilding.

carpentry toolsWhile we will talk about how to install laminate flooring in a future posting, there are a few things to keep in mind before starting.  One is to acclimate your new flooring for at least 48 hours prior to installation as temperature and humidity can affect flooring planks.

Be sure to remove any plastic wrapping from the boxes and leave air space around each box to allow air to freely circulate around them. And be sure to purchase about 10% more flooring that the square footage of the room since you will waste some of it during cutting.

Preparing to Install a Wood Floor

Wood floors add a touch of class and livability to homes that carpeting just can’t deliver. A sturdy wood floor can be enjoyed for many generations, and its installation should never be taken lightly. If you plan on doing the job yourself, make sure to follow a few simple steps before beginning the process. Stack your flooring inside the home for a day or two; this allows the wood to either shrink or expand according to the home’s humidity level.

Next, double-check that you have a clean, level flooring base – whether it’s the old floor or a bare slab of concrete. Keep in mind that your new flooring might be significantly higher than the floor in adjoining rooms. If your floor is raised above the ground, locate the floor joists and plan to lay your wood in a perpendicular orientation. Make a mental or physical note of the joists’ locations for future reference. Now that you’ve done the prep work, installing wood flooring will be much less tedious.
